Immediate expansion of flexible cleanup program

The health of our employees, interns, volunteers, and the health of our community is a top priority. With guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Health regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and actions by our community partners, we support and advocate for aggressive community action, for containment and social distancing measures.

Our interior office is closed to the public until further notice, and the team is working at full-capacity from home, focused on strategic high-impact high-value projects ahead of us for the next decade, and we will resume our 2020 game plan once conditions allow for it.

Meanwhile, getting outside and enjoying nature remains a safe option for individuals or small groups (such as families that are part of a containment unit). To keep taking action to improve ocean health, we are happy to announce the immediate expansion of the Clean Ocean Access flexible cleanup program.

In 2013 we started this program at Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge and expanded it to various locations around Aquidneck Island in the past seven years. Our goal is to have small sections of the coastline, watershed, and neighborhoods adopted to result in regular environmental stewardship action across the entire island, on a flexible schedule. With our weekend cleanups cancelled until further notice, now is a great time to get involved in this program.

Sign up for Clean Ocean Access Flexible Cleanup Program
We will contact you via email and phone to confirm the details
Come to the exterior of our office and pick up your cleanup supplies
You get outside and enjoy nature and perform a flexible schedule cleanup
We stay in touch via our debris tracker and email and expand the program

Individuals or small groups (such as families that are part of a containment unit) are welcome to get involved now. After the pandemic is resolved, we will expand this program further to neighborhood groups, businesses, as everyone is welcome to participate.

Please be safe and continue to practice and advocate for aggressive community action, for containment and social distancing measures. We look forward to hearing from you and getting more people involved in the flexible cleanup program.

Thank you
