We hosted two beach cleanups in Portsmouth this past weekend, one at Weaver Cove on Saturday, January 13 and another Sandy Point on Sunday, January 14. The Weaver Cove cleanup had a very successful turnout of 27 volunteers who removed 150 pounds of marine debris. An additional 20 volunteers attended the Sandy Point cleanup and worked together to collect 175 pounds of marine debris.
This is the 11th cleanup that we have organized at Sandy Point and we have removed 2,382 pounds of marine debris from that location since the first cleanup in 2011. This was the 18th cleanup at Weaver Cove and we have removed 5,709 pounds of marine debris from that location since the first cleanup in 2016. This is a total of 8,091 pounds of marine debris removed from the shoreline in Portsmouth through these cleanups.
Our next beach cleanup will be held on Saturday, February 3 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m at Gull Cove in Portsmouth.
