In 2012 after Hurricane Sandy we found, for the first time, these small plastic discs, and kept finding them for several years. After research, we learned these are from sewage overflows in New Haven CT and Hooksett NH (2005 and 2007). Big storms, like Sandy and the Sunday Night storm churn up the ocean and residual marine debris is overturned and arrives on our shoreline. This picture is from the sand at Easton’s Beach in Middletown. Even if all plastic stopped tomorrow, we’ll be doing beach cleanups for many more years!
